Day 7 - 9th October 2003 - Ajaccio and Vizzavona on Corsica
Although we'd intended to watch us come into the bay of Ajaccio early in the morning, as we awoke the ship was dropping anchor and it was too late. We took a tour to a mountain called Vizzavona, about 30 minutes from Ajaccio. There, in a small station, we sampled the delights of the local Corsican food, which was way better than the local Corsican driving! In the afternoon we walked around Ajaccio and Caroline paddled in the gorgeous beach, Plage Saint François. We left Ajaccio around 6pm as the sun set. Caroline and I took a jacuzzi as we watched the moon rise from the stern of the ship.

Our tour group take a break to look at Vizzavona

The small deserted station we ate our Corsican buffet.

Trains don't come by Vizzavona very often.

En route, our driver stopped so we could snap at the view.

...and there I am, obstructing the view.

The Corsican mountains are all covered in maquis.

Back in Ajaccio we could see our ship anchored impressively in the bay.

Caroline also posed in front of the Aurora

In case you didn't know, Napolean lived here.

Lovely set of palm trees surrounding the postcard stalls

Caroline went for a paddle on the lovely beach

Caroline playing in the beach wash

The beach was very clean...

...and the water very clear

Caroline in the beach café where we wrote some postcards

We came across this pretty, small church

Palm trees - always a favourite for a photographer

A pretty arbour near Charles De Gaulle Square

Wide-angle view of the arbour

And this is Charles De Gaulle Square.

Corsica was very pretty, and many people enjoyed the view on deck.

Kevin manages to stay fit by running round the sundeck and using the Gym

Caroline, as Ajaccio begins to disappear

Another beautiful sunset.. over Corsica this time

We watched the moon rise from the Jacuzzi as we sailed away.
